April 2009

It’s been a long day or should I say morning. I have been on the go since 4a.m and in that time I have been soaked twice, feasted on by midges and had way too much coffee.

A long evening lies ahead and instead of getting some sleep I have my head stuck in a Mac book going over my mornings work. Ah well! What harm will a few more bags under my eyes do?

Outside of Clifden lies Sky Road, a dramatic drive over looking some of the most majestic coastal scenes in Ireland. I have been here every night for four nights, and each night the weather has been dire. Wet, dark and damp! Not so much as a sliver of light.
Ever the optimist I am back on my knees in very boggy ground wrestling a tripod into submission. Fir bushes stick rather uncomfortably into my butt cheeks, as I protect stacked ND grads from the passing squally showers.

Thankfully and at long last things are looking up.Tonight the light isn’t exactly out of this world but the varying layer of clouds are dramatic. The composition you see was chosen days ago and makes use of the flow of the land and the seasonal blooming bushes.

ND grads will darken the sky. While the colourful yellow blooms add balance to the varying shades of green. As the clouds break briefly in the upper right of the frame I make my exposure. A quick check of the histogram and I am confidant I have got the shot I want.

Like the sound of it? If so why not join me on one of the number of “In the Field’ photographic workshops around Ireland this year. These workshops come in two formats, a full day one to one workshop and a less intense In the Field Photo shoot which typically take place at dawn or dusk. The dawn & dusk sessions serve as an introduction to the more intense all day sessions. Photographers will typically join me on location shoots and photograph with me. A typical session lasts no more than one or two hours.

The one to one workshops start early and finish late. Lots of photography and processing will be the order of the day. email: info@photoimagery.net for more information
