Surrounded by water, and soaked by rain, its not suprising that photographers in Ireland at sometime or an other are drawn to the sea. Lately while solving the worlds problems over a few pints a surfer friend told me that Donegal has some of the best surfing conditions in the world. So with a slighty sore head and those words ringinging in my ears I set of to North Donegal, you guessed it to photograph waves.
Arriving on a beach over looking Ballymastocker bay I was greeted by an awesome display of large waves riding in and breaking on the shore, the sun meanwhile fought its own battle with the passing storm clouds over head. With all this going on it was hard not to be caught up in the frenzy.

With waders on I headed of into the surf. Getting as low as I could to empahsie the power of the waves, and as the sun came thru I fired of my first frames. Experimeneting with different shutter speeds and various compositions I spent a glorious hour alone with nature. Times like these is what I live for.
A word of caution, shooting waves however comes with its own hazards. Sea spray and salt in the air can be a recipe for disaster for camera equipment. So adequate protection for your equipment is a must. UV filters, lens hoods and a good clean down after wards are a must.
