2009 Liffey Descent

September 5th 2009 seen the running of the 50th Liffey Descent. The event which draws competitors from as far away as South Africa and Canada and is a real photographic spectacle.

The weir at Straffan is the ideal location for sport action photographs. Located in the grounds of the K-Club the weir is canoes own version of horse racings beechers brook. At the weir many a canoeist is thrown from their boat, many a boat is broken, while many shoot by as if it is not there.

Photographs from this years event can be viewed by clicking here. To purchase an image email me at info@photoimagery.net

Donegal " In the Field" Photographic Workshop

June 20th 2009 saw me standing amongst the wild and beautiful countryside of Donegal on one of my one to one "In the Field" Irish Photographic workshops.
The workshop began early in the depths of the Poison Glen and took in Glenveagh National Park before finishing up in the town of Bunbeg.
Despite the intermittent showers some excellent images where captured by the participant. His shot of a view from Glenveagh as the rain begins to come in is my personal favourite.

The workshop while intensive was a lot of fun and covered topics including
  • Composition
  • Understanding light
  • Apertures
  • Shutterspeed
For more information on upcoming workshops email: info@photoimagery.net

Dublin Snow

The thing about Ireland is that we don't really get snow. From an Irish photographers point of view this is frustrating. So last week with the forecast indicating possible snow I decided to keep a camera close at hand while on a visit to the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham in Dublin city. Thankfully that decision paid off.

As the afternoon turned towards evening, Dublin City was engulfed in a passing snow storm. This event saw me scurrying into the gardens of the Royal hospital to capture some Irish winter scenes. Despite the cold I am please with the results. The images are atmospheric and the monochrome effect adds a timeless feel to them.

"Off the beaten track"

April 2008 saw the opening of Irish Landscape Photographer Peter McCabe exhibition entitled "Off the beaten track" in the Man Made Images gallery in Mountcharles County Donegal Ireland.

The gallery is the only gallery dedicated purely to exhibiting photography in Ireland.

Opening night was one of mixed emotions. Peter was nervous with thoughts that no one would turn up yet excited the weeks of hard work had finally come to fruition.

Thankfully opening night was a resounding success. The gallery was packed to the rafters and a large number of his Irish landscape prints where sold on opening night.

To view the "Off the beaten track" exhibition as a slide show click here .
